Avtovaz Plan To Export Lada SUV’s To China

Posted by

lada-4x4Avtovaz CEO Nicolas Maure has stated the company plans to target the China market and expects to export ‘several hundred’ Lada 4×4 autos to China towards the end of this year, in moves designed to offset declining exports to Kazakhstan due to changing regulations in the Kazak market. The Lada Niva 4×4 has fllled the mid-price gap for reliable off-road vehicles following the move by Land Rover to concentrate on up-market models.

The domestic Russia market is also in Avtovaz’s sights, with its sales forecast increased for Russia to more than 300,000 cars, on the back of agreements signed with taxi operators Yandex Taxi and Uber on using the company’s vehicles. “First of all we want Lada cars to be presented in taxi fleets. We are happy to sign agreements with Yandex Taxi and Uber, so this is already on the way,” Maure has stated.

Avtovaz is also undergoing a restructuring that will see its shares be divided between Renault-Nissan with 75% and Russian corporation Rostec who will hold the balance.  Russia produced 1,303,989 vehicles in 2016, ranking 16th among car-producing nations in 2016, and accounting for 1.4% of the worldwide production. Eleven foreign carmakers have production operations or are constructing their plants in Russia as the domestic market and access to EAEU markets  is expected to improve.
