Immediately following Perestojka in the 1990’s, representative offices became quite popular and gained a public sense of prestige. However, in Russia today, subsidiaries are received more positively than representative offices because this registration form better presents an entity’s serious long-term intentions for business in Russia. When choosing between market entry forms – direct export, representative office, branch or subsidiary - each company’s specific products, activities and future plans need to be taken into account.
